Canadian energy company TransAlta has won permitting approval for a 66MW wind farm at New Richmond in the province of Québec.

The project is contracted under a 20 year power purchase agreement with Hydro-Québec Distribution, and is expected to cost $205m. Pre-construction preparations will begin in April.
‘We appreciate the relationships we have built with the municipalities of New Richmond, St-Alphonse and Caplan, in which the wind turbines will be installed, and look forward to playing a part in the long-term sustainability of these communities,’ said Steve Snyder, CEO and president of TransAlta.
When complete, the project will increase TransAlta’s portfolio of wind assets to 1.14GW. The Calgary-based company is also working with TransCanada and Alstom on a large carbon capture and storage facility in Alberta.
TransAlta has annual revenues of $3bn and assets of $9bn, including power plants in the US, Canada and Australia.
